Iron mines

In Smedjebacken there are a number of interesting old iron mines. These are well worth a visit.

The mines in the area of Flogberget are from the early 1600's and consist of 15 shafts. The mine, with several pits and an underground gallery, is open to visitors and offers guided tours, including ones for children. An old fashioned gourmet café is open during summer. The mine has a beautiful location on the top of a hill.

Flatenbergs Hytta, a unique smelting-house with its roots in the 14th century. Machinery and tools remain, and a walking path has photographs of life here in 1915. This gives a lively presentation of how it ever was before. In the summer there are guided tours and special events, such as a forge and activities for children.
