SmedjebackenIn Smedjebacken you will find with its 100 meters the highest port of Sweden. It is the end of the Strömholmskanaal that runs from the Mälaren. You will find several buildings made of the beautiful blue 'snail stone', a residual product of the iron mining. A good example is the old railway station in the port. It is build in 1874. Furthermore there is a golf course, kiosk and the port office. In Gamla Meken you experience the atmosphere of the past and new modern art. The former rolling mill is now a meeting place of culture and history with changing exhibitions, performances and an exhibition of Johan Alhbäck. He put workers from the local iron industry attractive and realistic on canvas. The former and ancient traditions come to life in Norrbärke Hembygdsgård. You can walk between the old cozy wooden houses. By appointment and on special days, the houses open for public. |
