Smedjebacken is located in Southern Dalarna and set in magnificent natural surroundings making it ideal for a wide range of outdoor activities. The area has more than 500 lakes, where you can enjoy swimming, fishing and canoeing.

The area is also well known for its old mining industry. Go back in history and visit the various mines and smelting houses. Southern Dalarna is home to many skilled blacksmiths who are happy to teach their noble art to interested visitors.

The lake Norra Barken on which Smedjebacken is situated has many small islands making it perfect for adventurous canoe trips. Test your paddling skills on the Strömsholms Kanal or choose one of the many lakes in the Malingsbo-Kloten nature reserve. In this reserve you will find a combination of beautiful nature and culture. With 50,000 hectares it is one of the largest nature reserves in Sweden. Explore it while hiking, cycling or paddling in a canoe. With a little luck you can catch a glimpse of a beaver, elk or deer.
